V-Toku 2 is a premium Japanese carbon steel developed by Takefu Special Steel Co., Ltd. It is known for its excellent sharpness and edge retention, making it difficult for the blade to become dull even after extended use. It shares very similar characteristics with the well-known Aogami #2 (Blue Steel No. 2).
V-Toku 2 consists of approximately 1.05% carbon (C), 0.25% chromium (Cr), 1.25% tungsten (W), and less than 0.20% vanadium (V). This well-balanced composition allows the steel to achieve a remarkably high hardness of HRC 64 or more after heat treatment, contributing to its long-lasting sharpness.
However, since V-Toku 2 is not stainless steel, it is prone to rust if left in contact with water or moisture. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly dry the blade after use and store it in a dry environment.
With proper care, it can be a durable and long-lasting material for high-quality knives.
